The holidays are here and traffic is crazy. The malls are stuffed with seas of people trying to get the latest toy or gadget. Parking spaces are limited and it all leads to one thing. Stress. This time of happy holidays has turned to mass hysteria and it creates more stress for everyone than they had ever imagined. Thank goodness you have one tool to manage that stress that many don’t. Dance!

During this time, there is going to be a lot that will pull your attention. You need to shop for gifts, baking, and cooking. You need to work longer hours and prepare for year-end. You need to pick up the kids and get them ready for holiday recitals and extra school activities. So your brain starts to freak out and any new thing added will virtually send you into a spiral that ultimately ends in losing more hair.

You may not like this solution, but I want to tell you how important it is. You need to take time for yourself. You need time to release and get away from all of the noise. Like a Tesla at one of those new charging stations at the mall, you need to RECHARGE. So here is a list that will help you think of ways to recharge during this Holiday season.

1. Breathe- Breathing is the first tool you need to help you de-stress. Try it now. Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly. Try it again. This time, inhale for 5 counts, hold for 5 counts, then exhale for 5 counts. Do this before you leave your car and enter the mall or before you leave your house and start your day. It’s a great way to decrease your stress.
2. Meditate- If you’re like me, this may sound like a bunch of woo-woo stuff. Not really sure if you think it will help. But I promise you, it will. It’s easy. Go on your phone and look up yoga music. Take a calming song, put on some earphones and for 3- 5 minutes, meditate. Sit down with your hands relaxed on your legs, close your eyes, be still and breathe. It will be hard your first time, but try to think of nothing. If you need help, Calm is a free app that helps you meditate.
3. Dance- Exercise is a great way to move the stressful energy that is in your body. When you’re going through your regular daily activities, your mind can stay in the same world. A stressful world. When you do a fun exercise activity like dance, you change that state and therefore, change your attitude and perception. Since you love to dance, your body and brain transform to a happy state. In addition, the studio creates an oasis where your problems and stresses don’t live. So in essence, you’re getting away. Even if for a moment.

You and your sanity are important. Taking care of yourself when you have a lot to do is usually the last thing on your mind. But it’s the first reason why we all should take some time for ourselves and feed the part of us that is being depleted when stress gets high. So the next time you tell yourself you don’t have time for it. Remember, that’s the exact reason why you should do it. Do you have time now? Of course, you don’t. Point made.
